A  woman was killed and her niece wounded in a bomb explosion in Sumisip, Basilan Friday morning.

Insp. Alibonga of the Sumisip police station identified the fatality as Manna Jallama, 25 of Barangay Limbo Candis,Sumisip. Wounded was Sopia Abduhu, 16.

Police said Jallama and Abduhu  walking towards the pasteur area of their cattle when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded along their path.

Jallama was killed on the spot, while Abduhu was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

No other details available on the said blast and it is not clear whether the bomb was planted or was it a landmine.

Sumisip is one of the remote towns in Basilan that strongholds of the militant Abu Sayyaf group. — Richard Falcatan
