Men of the PNP’s Zamboanga City Public Safety Company under Supt. Ariel Huesca intercepted on Wednesday a cargo of suspected illegally cut trees in Suterville.

A police report disclosed that Huesca’s men were manning a checkpoint when a jeepney driven by Samuel Bazan arrived. Upon inspection, the lawmen found out that the vehicle was loaded with undetermined number of lumber flitches.

It was learned that the lumber cargo came from Lunday, Zamboanga del Norte through Curuan and heading for Suterville.

Asked for any document legalizing the transport of the lumber, Bazan could not produce any, prompting the policemen to confiscate the vehicle and its cargo. The latter was turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for proper disposition. — Dan Toribio
