The Police Regional Office-9 will spearhead activities today, February 9, marking the 24th founding anniversary of the Philippine National Police with Mayor Beng Climaco as keynote speaker.

Originally set last Monday, January 26, the anniversary was deferred to today in deference to the death of the 44 PNP-Special Action Force (SAF) members, 5 of them from Zamboanga, last January 25 in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

Activities today are centered at Camp Romeo Abendan headquarters in Mercedes and the heroism of the 44 fallen SAF members are expected to be the central theme of the occasion.

In Manila last January 26, the PNP’s 24th founding anniversary was led by Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and PNP-OIC PDir General Leonardo Espina.

A highlight during the occasion was the ceremonial signing of the PNP Integrity Pledge which is a major initiative under the PNP Peace and Order Agenda for Transformation and Upholding the Rule of Law or PATROL Plan 2030, the PNP’s overall strategy for real land lasting transformation with vision of becoming a “highly capable, effective and credible police service”. — Sheila Covarrubias
