District 2 Congresswoman Lilia Macrohon- Nuño on Monday  disclosed that the national government has allocated P20 million for the drainage and canal system along the Lobregat Highway particularly at the Divisoria-Boalan Road Section where the soon-to-open modern Zamboanga City Integrated Bus Terminal is located.

Rep. Nuño said the drainage system will be implemented by the start of the second quarter of this year and is considered as one of the priority projects of her congressional office and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) District Engineer’s Office.

“The P20 million drainage project for the Divisoria-Boalan Road Section has been allocated in the national budget for this year and is already due for implementation starting next quarter.” Nuño, who is also an active member of the House Committee on Appropriations, said in an interview.

The congresswoman said that the drainage project will start along the stretch of the national highway fronting the IBT in Divisoria up to the adjacent barangay of Boalan with the Boalan River serving as the outlet.

She added that the implementation of the said drainage project is very timely considering that the city’s IBT will soon be operational.

Currently, the whole stretch of the Divisoria-Boalan and Putik Road Section of the MCLL National Highway still has no existing drainage system and thus pose hazard to commuters and motorists passing the road during rainy season.

Nuño said that aside from the allocated P20 million, she will still be lobbying with the national government for an additional P10 million pesos to augment the drainage funding along the Divisoria-Boalon Road Section.

“I will be making strong representation in the House of Representatives for an additional P10 million budget from the supplemental budget of the national government for the said drainage project,” Nuño said during a meeting with the barangay officials of Divisoria led by Barangay Chairman  Jesus F. Macrohon held at her congressional office last Saturday.

Meanwhile, DPWH District Engineer Cholie M. Roble said the P20 million drainage project for the Divisoria-Bolan Road Section is already up for bidding.

Roble said the said project is listed as one of the top priority projects of the national government  for Zamboanga City. — Jemuel E. Mojica
