Mayor Beng Climaco reassures residents of the city that the police and military are on top of the situation but stressed that cooperation of the civilian sector is urgent.

The mayor said this in the wake of continuing anxiety among residents in view of the recent developments brought about by the stalled Bangsamoro Basic Law and the January 25 Mamasapano incident.

“Security is everybody’s responsibility,” she declared and at the same time called on the people anew not to forward unverified text messages to prevent panic and confusion. “Let us have faith in the city of Zamboanga.”

Situation in Zamboanga City remains normal and the police and military have been on full alert since before Christmas time. Classes and work continue regularly.

“We want to maintain normal operations. These are difficult times but we will be able to surpass all this with a lot of cooperation from the civilian sector,” Mayor Climaco added.

Meanwhile, City Police Director Sr. Supt. Angelito Casimiro underscored the local police’s commitment to duty and service as he answered queries related to coup rumors brewing in Manila following the Mamasapano incident.

“We are toeing the line, we were advised by the Regional Director that we only have one PNP. We have advised all chiefs of police to also toe the line and if they have grievances they should go to the grievance committee and if they have personal opinion of what is going on, in the dynamics in the national and local level, they just keep it among themselves and we should join activities that we have to do and show compassion to those fallen 44,” Col. Casimiro added. (Sheila Covarrubias)
