The Office of the City Civil Registrar will be spearheading a mass mobile birth registration activity on Thursday, February 19 in barangay Baluno.

To be held at the Lima Elementary School, the activity is in line with the national observance of Civil Registration Month which is held every February.

Among the objectives of the mass birth registration is to bring civil registration to residents in far-flung areas, increase awareness on the importance of registering and securing vital civil documentations, and encourage the registration of those still without legal civil documents.

Aside from the registration activity, the Office will also be initiating a community outreach initiative for the benefit of the residents of the barangay.

This year’s Civil Registration Month celebration, with the theme “Sama Ka sa CRVS Groupie”, will focus on the global campaign to register all citizens, including an approximately 7.5 million Filipinos who are still not legally registered, by 2024.

CRVS stands for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics which covers not only birth, marriage and death certificates but also stands for a person’s legal identity, civil status and their right to be recognized as a citizen of the state.

The Civil Registration Month celebration is led by the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly National Statistics Office), pursuant to Proclamation 682 issued on January 28, 1991. The annual observance is a reminder to citizens of their duty to register vital acts and events concerning the status of persons, and increase nationwide appreciation of the legal, administrative and statistical values of civil registry documents. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
