A Customs Police aide was arrested yesterday morning at the local wharf after Coast Guard personnel recovered from his possession three firearms belonging to Customs Police.

Nabbed was Rommel Talbangsa, 40. Seized from his possession were an M16 rifle, a .45 caliber pistol and a .38 caliber revolver all loaded with several rounds of ammunition.

The Coast Guard also recovered from his possession a rolled plastic sachet containing suspected shabu.

Sammy Labay of the Bureau of Customs told DZT that the guns confiscated from Talbangsa were officially issued to Sanadil Jalani, a custom policeman.

Labay said that Jalani and Talbangsa have been performing their duty in Tawi-Tawi, but Jalani returned here aboard a plane due to some health problem.

Jalani asked Talbangsa to bring home his firearms and he did it by taking a vessel.

Talbangsa said he brought with him the firearms but before he alighted the boat yesterday, he was held by Coast Guard personnel.

During inspection police also found the suspected drug from his possession.

Talbangsa was placed under police custody pending the filing of charges in court. — Dan Toribio
