Boxing enthusiasts of Zamboanga City have reason to be happy as professional boxing is back in the city.

Former WBO intercontinental lightweight champion and Zamboanga’s pride Rocky Anthony Marcial returns to the ring on Saturday to the delight of local boxing buffs as he vowed to win via knockout over Jonil Gadapan of Iligan City, the former Mindanao Champion and RP Rated # 6 lightweight.

With an impressive record of 19 wins, 18 via knock out and with only three defeat, Marcial predicts a knockout in the seven or eight round of their championship match for the MINPROBA or the Mindananao Professional Boxing Championship.

“I am confident that he (Gadapan) will not last until eight round because I am going to knock him out,” Marcial, told reporters during a media interview at the Navarro Stable.

He emphasized that he needs to have knockout victory over  Gadapan so that he will have more promising fights in the future not only here in the country but also in the Asia Pacific.

Vicente Cabalog, GAB (boxing) OIC,  told DZT that Marcial’s agility and power are his best weapons against Gadapan’s brawling and power-packed style.

“Our very own Marcial, aside from being also a heavy puncher has speed advantage plus very good ring generalship,” Cabalog said.

Dubbed as Golpe De Zamboagueno (MINDPROBA CHAMPIONSHIP), the Marcial-Gadapan match also features equally exciting fights of local promising boxers like Conrado Tanamor with a 5-0 professional record, Angelo Marcial, Roel Aparece, all from the Rolando Navarro Stable.

The much anticipated Golpe De Zamboagueno will start at 5:00 PM at the City Coliseum.

Local boxing fans can witness the weigh -in of the boxing contenders at Plaza Pershing at 5:00 PM today for free.
