Kings Promotion lauded for reviving professional boxing PDF Print E-mail

Local government officials commended the Kings Boxing Promotion led by Rolando “Junie” Navarro for reviving professional boxing in the city stressing that the holding of such professional boxing bout here provides the current and future Zamboangueno boxers the opportunity to advance their boxing career.

City officials who graced the Golpe De Zamboagueno Marcial-Gadapan match Saturday evening at the City Coliseum said that indeed Zamboanguenos are big fans of boxing as they noted the huge crowd during the said boxing event.

District 2 Congresswoman Lilia Macrohon Nuno said the holding of the Golpe De Zamboagueno in the city, where local boxers where featured in exciting fights, is surely a treat to local boxing buffs.

“We laud the Kings Boxing and the Rolando Navaro Promotion for bringing back professional boxing in our city. The holding of professional boxing matches where our very own local boxers are given the opportunity to fight is really a worthy sports undertaking,” Rep. Nuno told reporters in an interview.

Although former WBO intercontinental lightweight champion and Zamboanga’s pride Rocky Anthony Marcial comeback against Jonil Gadapan of Iligan City who is the former Mindanao Champion and RP Rated # 6 lightweight was unsuccessful and in fact ended in a draw, Conrado Tanamor won via knockout against Jerry Baja. The younger brother of the former champ Angelo Marcial also won against Quiven Abtina of Iligan City.

Local residents from different walks of life were also eager to cheer for the local boxers during the fights.

District 2 Councilor VP Elago, who was present during the boxing event, said that he is confident that the new and upcoming local boxers especially Tanamor will have more big fights in the future after having a knock out victory .

He added that the holding of Golpe De Zamboangueno will also give more inspiration to young boxers here and in the region to further sharpen their skill and prowess in the ring since they now know that more professional boxing matches will already be held here in Zamboanga City by the Kings Boxing Promotion.

Former mayor and congressman Erbie A. Fabian, who was also a boxing promoter, expressed optimism that the Kings Boxing Promotion will bring more boxing events in the city every year.

Fabian said that they are many young and talented boxing pugs here in the city adding that these boxers only need more support and local promotions.

Meanwhile, the Kings Boxing Promotion said that a much bigger boxing event will be held in the city by October of this year, in time for the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival.

“We will bring some foreign boxers to fight here in the Coliseum. But ofcourse, we will also feature our Zamboagueno boxers especially those young and upcoming ones.” Navarro said.
