One hundred families displaced by the September 2013 siege have finally transferred to their permanent houses on stilts in barangay Taluksangay last Thursday in time for the Dia de Zamboanga celebration.

Mayor Beng Climaco and District II Congresswoman Lilia Nuno led in accepting the houses from National Housing Authority (NHA) District Manager Al Indanan and later turned the infrastructures to the beneficiaries. Also present during the turnover ceremony were members of the City Council and rehabilitation cluster heads.

The Taluksangay houses on stilts were constructed under the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R) plan with the overarching goal of building back a better Zamboanga.

The February 26 turnover was the fourth since the start of the Z3R implementation. Other permanent houses turned over previously were those in Martha Homeowners Subdivision, Paniran and Valle Vista – all in Sta. Catalina.

Mayor Climaco expressed elation that the permanent houses are gradually being turned over, as she expressed hopes that the national government can comply with its earlier commitment to finish all the houses by this year.

She reiterated that the City Government is closely coordinating with the national government for the implementation of the Z3R and with the concerned agencies and humanitarian actors for the recovery efforts.
