Ø Dia del Alcalde visited the island barangay of Tumalutab March 4 where some 500 residents availed of free medical and dental and other frontline services. Mayor Beng Climaco personally spearheaded the activity where she also turned over Philhealth cards and P1.9 million worth of projects that included catwalk, shoreline protection and comfort room to barangay residents led by Chairperson Carsoma Abunawas. Added services were distribution of books and eye glasses by the Philippine Navy, free haircut (Libreng Gupit) by the Phil. Marines and free eye glasses by the Crystal Clear Vision.

Ø The observance of Rabies Awareness Month in Zamboanga will start Thursday, March 5 with a launching program at 9am at the Pasonanca Elementary School grounds to be preceded by a motorcade from Pettit Barracks. Ceremonial vaccination and film showing will follow the program that will be spearheaded by the ZC Rabies Control and Eradication Coordinating Council (ZCRCECC).

Ø Women’s Month celebration in Zamboanga will kick off March 9 with various activities to include Baile de las Mujeres starting at 630 AM from Ledesma Street to Paseo del Mar where a short program will follow. There will be free breast examination and pap smear at the Centro Latino lobby and selling of products of RIC women entrepreneurs in different booths at Paseo grounds. The activity will be a fund-raising campaign with proceeds intended for the psychiatric ward at ZCMC, women inmates of BJMP and women crisis center. Activities are organized by the Gender and Development (GAD) and the Local Council of Women (LCW).

Ø Mayor Beng Climaco reminds residents to remain vigilant but calm and to support the efforts of the Joint Task Group Zamboanga with the PUMA (Pulisya, Marines at Army) concept in the conduct of checkpoints, beat patrols and other security operations in the city.
