Mayor Beng Climaco motored yesterday morning to Manalipa, another island barangay in the east coast of this city, bringing with her the basic social services of the city government under the “Dia del Alcalde” outreach program.

Residents of Manalipa mostly belonging to Samal tribe headed by their Barangay Chairman Abubakar Hakim were all smiles and delighted to see Mayor Climaco and her party descending from the boats.

Joining the mayor were personnel from the City Health Office, City Agriculturist Office, Civil Registrar, City Veterinary and other agencies that form part of the “Dia del Alcalde” mission, offering free medical consultations, medicines and vitamins for the children, dental services, live birth and marriage registrations, agri-fishery assistance, veterinary.

Marine soldiers were also there and gave free haircut to the children.

Close to 500 indigent residents, who availed those services, thanked the mayor for the visit and services that they no longer have to endure the long and strenuous trip to the mainland for their medical needs.

Climaco together with the same group of government personnel also brought the “Dia del Alcalde” mission to the island barangay of Tumalutab, where more than 500 islanders availed of the free services.

While there, the chief executive inaugurated and turned over to the barangay council some P1.9 million worth of infrastructure projects that the city government had implemented on the island. The projects included a catwalk, a comfort room and a footbridge.

Climaco’s visit to the barangays during the “Dia del Alcalde” missions is her way of serving the people, especially those in far flung areas and the islands and to “let them know the city government cares for them.” — Vic Larato
