Maritime cops seize illegally shipped coconut lumber PDF Print E-mail

Policemen of the 9th Regional Maritime Unit have seized an unauthorized shipment of  coco lumber aboard a RORO vessel that arrived at the Zamboanga City port from Isabela City on March 1.

A report from the unit disclosed that around 8:30 a.m. on March 1,  its men led by PO3 Jobasco A Idjiraei and PO1 Alfaizar A Abdurasad conducted police visibility patrol and random checking of incoming RORO vessels particularly MV Stephanie Marie, owned by Aleson Shipping Lines at the local port, including check-up of transshipment documents of cargo trucks through RORO vessels.

During an inspection and verification of a cargo Isuzu truck bearing plate number JVM800 (for hire) driven by Artemio Baligasa Granada Jr., it was found out that truck was loaded with coco lumber. Upon further verification regarding the legitimacy of the trans-shipment, the original documents presented bore erasures andalterations prompting the team to hold the truck for further investigation.

Initial investigation revealed that the truck on board MV Stephanie Marie belongs to Felix Manaog of Tetuan, Zamboanga City. It was loaded with some 10, 520 board feet of coconut lumber with estimated market value of P100,000 owned by Eliseo V Tarroza, of Balawatin, Makiri, Isabela City, Basilan and consigned to Donglenn Aquino of Bunguiao, Zamboanga City,  It left Isabela City Port, around 6:00 a.m.and arrived Zamboanga City Port at about 8:30 a.m. bringing with them the Transport/Transshipment Clearance/permit, issued by Nelson S Chua of the Philippine Coconut Authority Isabela City, which, upon the initial verification of the team, that said document bears erasures/alterations which is in violation of Art II, Section 7, paragraph (b) of PCA Administrative Order Number 02 Series of 2005 otherwise known as revised Implementing Rules And Regulations of RA  8048.

The truck and cargo were temporarily impounded at vicinity of RMU9 office, Baliwasan Seaside, Zamboanga City for custody while the investigator-on-case has prepared the necessary documents for  the filing of appropriate complaint in court against the driver Artemio Baligasa Granada Jr , truck owner Felix Manaog and the  owner of the coco lumber Eliseo V Tarroza, and Donglenn Aquino, for violation of Art II, Section 7, paragraph (b) of PCA Administrative Order Number 02 series of 2005 otherwise known as Revised Implementing Rules And Regulations of RA  8048 .
