City sets 20th Summer Sports fest PDF Print E-mail

The city government through the City Sports Division is now finalizing preparations for the Basic Summer Camp dubbed “Learn-to-Play A Sports Program.”

Now on its 20th year, the sports activity will be from May 1-31. Registration of participants will start second week of April. The program provides free training on 26 sports disciplines to ensure the youths with a wholesome and worthwhile experience during the summer season. Over 200 instructors have been tapped to train the participants.

The month-long program, which is open for free to children ages 5 to 15, will be held in various venues to include the barangays and private institutions.

The sports events include aikido/arnis (8 years old and above); athletics (6 years to not more than 12); basketball (5 years old and above); baseball, body building (12 years and above; boxing (8 years above); chess (5 years and above); dance sport; fencing; football; gymnastics (5 years above); judo; karate-do (5 years above); lawn tennis; muay thai; pencak silat (7 years above); sepak takraw; softball; swimming (8 years above); table tennis (6 years above); taekwondo (4 years above); volleyball; weightlifting; wrestling (5 years above) and wushu (5 years above).

The Learn-to-Play a Sports activity has been proven to be a very successful sports and youth development program, for which most Zamboangueño athletes had won medals in national and international competitions.
