Security forces under Zamboanga City’s “PUMA” (Pulis-Marines-Army)  intercepted a motorized boat locally known as junkung loaded with suspected smuggled rice off RT Lim  Boulevard Saturday night.

Zamboanga City Public Safety Company commander Supt. Ariel Huesca disclosed that around 8:30 p.m., a PUMA team led by PO3 Mohammad Alpad Masakin and Sgt. Rafael Acol of the Philippine Marines were conducting tactical motorcycle patrol along RT Lim Boulevard going to Baliwasan Seaside when they spotted a junkung loaded with undetermined number of sacks of rice.

During interrogation,  the boat skipper and the six crew failed to present papers legalizing the transport of the rice shipment.

The boat was secured by police and military personnel pending its proper turnover to the Bureau of Customd. — Dan Toribio
