Residents of  Barangays Mangusu, Curuan and Vitali are on red alert amid reports of threats from an armed group wanting to enter the area.

Barangay Mangusu Chairman Bobby Pagsoguiron said yesterday  barangay officials can not lower their guard due to an incident last month in which an armed group created trouble and harassed the people in their bid to grab a titled land in the Barangay.

According to Pagsoguiron, the armed group is related to certain Moro rebels.

“We are on 24-hour alert  guarding our barangay in coordination with officials of  Curuan and Vitali, Philippine Army soldiers and barangay tanods,“ Pagsoguiron said.

He said he is scheduled to meet with Mayor Beng Climaco -Salazar to ask for help for the daily sustenance of the Army troopers and barangay tanods securing the barangay.

“The support the soldiers and tanods get from the people particularly food is not enough because they have  also families to feed,” he explained.

He added that Mangusu area is very accessible to the mountainous area  going to the municipalities of Sibuco and Sirawai in Zamboanga del Norte where there is a camp of Moro rebels. — Allen Abastillas
