First District Congressman Celso Lobregat the other day thanked the City Council for recognizing his efforts and contribution in the enhancement of people’s understanding on the provisions of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.

In a resolution approved by a majority vote, the City Council Tuesday last week approved a resolution recognizing and commending the District I solon for his “dedicated and selfless contribution in the enhancement of the Filipino people’s understanding on the provisions of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law and other allied issues.”

Lobregat said he is not after recognitions or commendations and that he is just doing his job being aware of the many issues surrounding the peace agreement between the government and the rebel groups particularly the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

“But I am very thankful to those who voted to approve the resolution and for recognizing my efforts,” he said adding that he feels it his responsibility and duty to share to others what he knows about the proposed BBL and other allied issues so that the people can make a stand on the matter.

Lobregat assured that he will continue with his advocacy to inform the different sectors about the nitty-gritty of the proposed BBL and its allied issues given the numerous ambiguities in some of the provisions of the proposed law.

In approving the resolution, the councilors affirmed that Lobregat’s dedication and selfless contribution is “exemplified in his tireless, spirited and brilliant presentation and comprehensive discussion of the issues before numerous public fora and top-rated national television public affairs programs and major sectoral convocations on the subject aforementioned”.

Councilor Jerry Perez, representing the Liga ng mga Barangay in the City Council sponsored the measure based on a resolution approved by the Liga composed of the 98 barangays in the city.

The Council resolution was approved by a majority vote with Councilors Rommel Agan, Melchor Rey Sadain, Juan Climaco Elago II and Josephine Pareja voting against it. Councilor Roel Natividad left the session hall during the voting.

Perez said Lobregat deserves the recognition given his passion and vigor in constantly educating the public about issues related to the BBL, in every opportunity he can. — Jubels Santos
