Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday appealed to residents of Barangay San Roque to help authorities in keeping their village secured, stressing once more that security in everybody’s business.

“Let us help each other for the sake of our children. Never again shall we allow Zamboanga City to be under siege. But it can only be done with the help of everybody in the community,” Mayor Climaco told San Roque residents during the Barangay Assembly yesterday afternoon.

The chief executive cited for instance the robbery incident the other day in Sibulao were two of the suspects were collard by the residents and turned them over to the police.

“It was really amazing. When people help each other nothing is impossible. It was a perfect example of people helping in security,” Climaco said.

San Roque, she recalled, was in the hotspot months after she assumed office in 2013 when an incident occurred at the residence of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Chairman Nur Misuari.

“We don’t want that incident to happen again. We don’t want anything to happen to you, because San Roque is one of the barangays that is close to my heart,” she said, even as she clarified that Zamboanga City is home to everybody whether Christians, Muslim, Lumads and any other ethnic tribes.

“So let us help each other to protect it, especially our children. The children of San Roque deserve a better future and it is the comment of the city government and myself,” Climaco added. — Vic Larato
