Rep. Nur Anna Sahidulla (2nd district, Sulu) has vowed to help government teachers   uplift their standard of living by authoring a bill in Congress for the increase  of  their basic salary and allowances.

Sahidulla told over 150 public school teachers of Sulu Friday that she would help them obtain a salary increase by sponsoring a salary standardization bill in Congress in coordination with other congressmen who are also concerned about the welfare of  government teachers.

The teachers were attending a three-day seminar on enhance strategies in teaching Pilipino at a local hotel in this city.
The seminar carries the theme “workshop on professional development and improved classroom instruction with focus on enhanced strategies in teaching Pilipino,” was organized by educators of the 11 towns  in the province of Sulu 2nd district

ATC Teachers Party list Rep Antonio Tinio who was the  guest speaker of the  seminar also  shared a similar vision with Sahidulla .
He  said he had also earlier authored a bill in Congress seeking to increase the salary of teachers. The bill is now pending at the committee level for further reading, he said.

Sahidulla  who keynoted the opening of the workshop, described the forum as “timely and important.”
She said the quality of educational system in Sulu is deteriorating unless appropriate remedy is undertaken by DepEd to improve it.
Sahidulla emphasized that “quality education starts from quality instruction and quality instruction begins with good and competent teachers.”

She lamented the failure of the education department to  provide the necessary support to advance the technical competence of teachers thru in-house trainings and professional development trainings.

She appealed to  DepEd  to  allocate an amount to conduct training activities aimed  to uplift the standard of teaching of teachers in the countryside. — Nonoy E. Lacson
