Sulu bizmen reel from PAL flight cancellation PDF Print E-mail

The total cancellation of Philippine Airlines’ regular flights to Jolo, Sulu starting on March 6  has affected severely business and similar activities in the province.

Former Jolo Councilor Nonoy Go,  who is the president of the Sulu Chamber of Commerce, said that heavily affected by the PAL flight cancellation are people engaged in aquatic culture business because they rely on air transport in sending their products on time to Manila and Cebu.

Also affected are government officials, visitors and  other personalities from other places in the country who want to visit Jolo to engage in business other ativities.

The fligh cancellation also caused a big blow to businessmen who send exotic fruits like mangosteen and durian to Manila.

”These perishable products need to ship early to its destination so that it will not be rotten,” Go said.

Go said that Sulu Gov. Abdusakur Tan II has appealed to the national government to intervene for the resumption of the PAL flight to and from Sulu.

Go expressed hope that Cebu Pacific will fill in the vacuum and open regular flights to Sulu from Zamboanga City. — Allen Abastillas
