SINDANGAN — As most public elementary and secondary schools are now having their graduation rites, Education Secretary Armin A. Luistro has reminded the graduates of the sacrifices of the “fallen and living heroes” like the soldiers and teachers who worked hard “to secure a decent life for their families.”

Speaking in a graduation ceremony yesterday at the Sindangan National Agricultural School (SNAS) here, Schools Supertindent Natividad P. Bayubay of the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Schools Division read the message of Secretary Luistro before the graduating class, teachers, parents, municipal officials, alumni and guests, emphasizing the importance of quality education in building a decent life.

“Let this be a reminder of the stories of our fallen and living heroes, soldiers and teachers alike, who persevered in their education to secure a decent life for their families. It impresses upon us the power of education in unlocking the doors of opportunities and in enabling us to pave the path to a dignified productive life, a life that is lived not only for our selves but also for others,” Ms. Bayubay quoted Luistro’s message as saying.

Bayubay also delivered her own message in the dialect to the graduates telling them that their graduation from high school “is the fruit of their sacrifices.” She encouraged them to pursue their college studies as well.

For this school year, SNAS has 284 graduates under the strengthened vocational education curriculum. These graduates belonged to the last batch of high school students under the four-year high school program prior to the implementation of the senior high school curriculum.

This year’s graduation theme is “Saktong Buhay: Sa De-Kalidad na Edukasyon Pinanday (Decent Life: Built through quality education).” — FPG/PIA9
