Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) Chief Col. Angelito Casimiro on yesterday morning welcomed the appointment of the new district customs collector for Zamboanga City.

Casimiro said that he is anticipating a better relationship with the Bureau of Customs under the leadership of newly appointed Major Jerry Loresco in enforcing and sustaining an effective anti-smuggling campaign in the City.

“We are looking forward to a better relationship with the Bureau of Customs,” said Casimiro during the Monday press conference at City Hall.

Meanwhile, personnel from the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company (ZCPSC) arrested two individuals and confiscated two trucks of documented rice in two separate operations in Tugbungan on March 23, and in Veterans Avenue on March 28 as part of the anti-smuggling drive of the ZCPO.

Casimiro disclosed that the confiscated rice were turned over to the Bureau of Customs for safekeeping while the appropriate cases are being filed and processed.

The ZCPO is also looking for alternative storerooms for all confiscated rice as bonded warehouses are already full.

“We are looking at either at the Sangali fishport or at the Ecozone for depository of all confiscated rice while cases are undergoing legal process,” said Casimiro. —Jasmine Mohammadsali
