After living together for some years without the benefit of marriage, more than 100 Isabela City couples tied the knot yesterday in a mass wedding officiated by Mayor Cherry Santos Akbar at the city’s gymnasium.

Since she was elected mayor eight years ago, the mass nuptials has already been the tradition of her administration during the city’s celebration of Cocowayan Festival.

Amid difficulties being experienced by most of the young and old couples, Akbar made it a point to process all the legal documents for free.

Each couple was also provided with a wedding cake plus cash gift from the city chief executive.

Before the marriage ceremony, the mayor advised the pairs to make God the center of their lives and the importance of respect for one another.

The newly weds thanked Akbar for her concern to legalize their matrimony in the eyes of God and the people. — KS
