The City Police Office assures residents that there will be no whitewashing on complaints filed against its personnel.

City Police Public Information Officer SPO2 Alex Mabalot presented Monday morning the results of the ongoing internal cleansing mechanism of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) which seeks to investigate and take action on complaints filed against police officers.

“There’s no whitewash on complaints against erring policemen. If they have to face the charges, they will,” said Mabalot.

To date, a total of 36 complaints have been received by ZCPO ranging from less grave misconduct and simple neglect of duty to grave misconduct and serious irregularity in the performance of duty. Of this number, 23 cases have been filed, 10 were resolved, and 3 are undergoing investigation.

Investigations on filed cases have resulted in the imposition on penalties which include 6 exonerations, 9 restrictions, 1 suspension, 3 reprimands, and 1 admonishment.

Meanwhile, police operatives continue to crack down on offenders of different ordinances enforced in the City.

From April 13 to 19, police personnel apprehended a total of 19 individuals for violations against City Ordinances on smoking, pedicab use, and urinating in public places.

Six individuals were apprehended for violation of City Ordinance 413 (Regulating Smoking in the City).  For Ordinance 500 (Urinating in Public Places), 4 violators were apprehended and rendered community service as penalty.

For Ordinance 92-012, or the ordinance regulating the use of pedicab in the City, 9 violators were taken into custody and issued with citation tickets. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
