A security guard, in possession of a hand grenade, was arrested when he went to the office of Supt. Ariel Huesca at the PNP’s Zamboanga City Public Safety Company where he introduced himself as a police official who just graduated  from the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA)

Arrested was Leonel Indong y Lucin, Jr., 20, single, temporarily residing in Pasonanca and a native of Dungos, Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur.

A police report disclosed that Indong arrived at the ZCPSC base and introduced himself to the sentinel as a newly PNPA graduate with the rank of Police Inspector (Lieutenant) under Class 2015.

Indong requested the sentinel to accompany him to Huesca as he claimed that Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Edgar Basbas had directed him to pay a courtesy call on the ZCPSC chief.

When he met Huesca, Indong again described himself as a PNPA graduate while showing his identification card.

A short conversation took place between Huesca and Indong. Huesca introduced one of his lower rank officers, Sr. Insp. Julius Dao-an who is also a PNPA graduate Class 2010.

Then the two police officials invited Indong to the receiving room where they offered him snacks.

However as their conversation continued, Dao-an observed the behavior of Indong not befitting a PNP officer and there were several inconsistencies in his statements concerning the PNPA.

When blackout occurred in the ZCPSC base, Dao-an handcuffed Indong who resisted which triggered a commotion.

Then Indong immediately admitted that he is not a PNPA graduate.

Huesca and his men recovered fake identification cards and a grenade from Indong’s possession.

In an interview, Indong confessed that all his credentials including the PNP identification card were fake.

He said he did it out of frustration because he failed to join the PNPA. — Dan Toribio
