Zamboanga City police arrested here a man and turned him over to the Iligan City in connection with a carnapping case.

Ariel Cellan Umpa 38, a parking barker at the Camiqui Terminal in Iligan City at first alleged that he was able to escape from the custody of four gunmen who carnapped a Starex van in Iligan City and drove it to Zamboanga City.

Umpa told the police that around 11 a.m. on April 21, he was held by the four gunmen who commandeered a brown Starex van bearing temporary plate number 101-708 after shooting and wounding its owner/driver Jojo Colanse in Iligan City.

Umpa claimed that he was brought by the carnappers aboard the stolen van that travelled to Zamboanga City from IliganCity.

He added that when they arrived in a place here where there was a nearby mosque, he was able to escape.Umpa was reportedly arrived at Tetuan Police Station where he sought a police assistance.

During a follow-up operation, police found out that Umpa was referring to Barangay Baliwasan particularly near the Baliwasan Commercial Complex (BCC)  where he allegedly escaped.

However, when men of the Tetuan police station contactged the Nunucan Police Station-2 in Iligan City, they were told that Umpa connived with the suspects based on the statement of the wounded van owner.

Nunucan policemen travelled to this  city and took custody of Umpa,
