Some 1,200 children aged 5-15 years old have registered for this year’s Basic Sports Summer Class Camp organized by the City Government through the City Sports Division.

Now on its 20th year, the summer learn to play activity opened in simple rites held at the City Coliseum Thursday with Councilor Roel Natividad, acting vice mayor, leading the program. It has produced top-notched Zamboangueño athletes who have gone to compete in national and international competitions.

The training covers 25 sports disciplines and is offered to school-aged children for free.

In view of the unavailability of the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Baliwasan, the City Sports Division under Dr. Cecille Atilano has designated various venues for the different sports events.

Training on archery will be held at the San Roque Barangay Hall, Sinunuc Elementary School and Talisayan National High School; Arnis will be held at the Plaza Pershing and at the Voctech in Ayala/Ayala Gym; Athletics will be at the Mercedes Elementary School, Sta. Maria Elementary School, Arena Blanco Elementary School, Baliwasan Central school, Ayala Central School, Talisayan National High school and Putik Elementary School; Badminton will be at the City coliseum in Tetuan; Baseball/Softball events will be at the Capisan, Mampang and Lunzuran Elementary Schools while the basketball events will be at the Manicahan Covered court, Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School, Ayala Gym, Sangali gym, Tetuan, Tumaga and Canelar.

The venues for Body building will be the Kitsar Gym in Tetuan, Lunzuran Barangay Hall, Talon-talon Barangay Hall, Tugbungan Plaser and Pasonanca; Chess will be at the Sto. Niño residence of Engr. Florendo; Dance sports will be at the Montesorri de Zamboanga; Football will be at the Sta. Maria Football field; gymnastics will be at the UZ-IHK Veterans Campus and City Coliseum in Tetuan; Judo will be at the WMSU gym while karatedo owill be at the Putik Karatedo gym, Sta. Catalina, Divisoria, Tetuan and Canelar elementary School.

Lawn tennis will be at the City Court in Pettit Barracks and Cabato Lawn Tennis Club; Muay Thai at the Sta. Maria covered court, Sta. Maria gymn, Pasonanca Butterfly garden and Cabatangan; Pencak Silat will be at the San Roque Barangay Hall and Motor Pool City Engineer-San Roque; sepak takraw at the Tumaga Elementary School and Ayala Gym, Swimming at the Grandstand Swimming Pool and Table Tennis at the City Coliseum in Tetuan.

Taekwondo will be at the UZ-IHK Veterans Campus, FernDale, Tumaga, Tugbungan and Sta. Maria Elementary Schools, Southcom National High School, WMSU, ADZU and Naval/Tetuan; Volleyball will be at the City High School main, Southcom Elementary School, Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School; weightlifting at the UZ-IHK weightlifting gym, Mampang weightlifting gym, Pasobolong, Talon-talon and Savanah weightlifting gymns; wrestling at the Guiwan Wrestling gym and wushu at the Sta. maria Tumaga bridge, Tetuan Barangay Hall, Mercedes Elementary School, San Roque and Tumaga.
