Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, who is the acting mayor will spearhead the Dia de Obrero program today, May 1 with a wide array of activities to honor and show gratitude to the city’s labor sector at the Ecozone in Talisayan.

Themed “Disenteng Trabaho at Kabuhayan Alay Natin sa Bayan”, the Dia de Obrero will feature, among others, job and livelihood fairs, motorcade, a diskwento fair and market market, the launch of job search kiosk, and turnover of kabuhayan starter kits.

It is organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in cooperation with the City Government of Zamboanga and the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone (Ecozone).

Some 27,000 job vacancies will be up for grabs for both overseas and local employment during the Job Fair.

In support of the Dia de Obrero activities, the City Government will be providing interested jobseekers and laborers with their families with a free ride to the Zamboanga Ecozone. The shuttles for the Ecozone will depart City Hall at 7 am, 9 am, 11 am and 1 pm.

Aside from the free transport service, the City Government will also be spearheading a Dia de Alcalde program to provide medical and dental consultations to jobseekers and a TESDA skills demo activity.

The Dia de Obrero activities is open to the public and entrance to the Ecozone for the whole day activity is free as is the use of its pools, zipline, and bowling facilities.— Sheila Covarrubias
