The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippines Social Technology Bureau and the City Social Welfare and Development through the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Unit (PDAU) have chosen Boalan as a PWD friendly barangay for its ideal implementation of programs that pass the criteria of a development model of intervention for persons with disabilities.

Technical consultants from the DSWD national headquarters led by Fredelyn Alcantara together with representatives from the DSWD regional office, Regional Council on Disabilities Affairs (RCDA) composed of TESDA, Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center III, Officer City Planning and Development and Coordinator, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and PDAU recently visited the barangay to observe activities undertaken by the barangay. The group was warmly welcomed by Boalan chairperson Angelica Inot with kagawads Alicia Cabayacruz and Jocelyn Enriquez.

During the 3-day activity, PWDs in Boalan were gathered to avail of benefits granted through the DSWD’s program for PWDs that include the Pantawid program and other package of assistance offered by TESDA, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Health and other national and international NGOs, people’s organizations and civic organizations.

The Barangay Council has initiated the organization of PWDs under the supervision of kagawads    Cabayacruz and Enriquez. The elected PWD officers of Boalan are President- Valentina Napolreyes, Vice President- Geronimo Galvez, Secretary- Rosalinda Lawas, Treasurer- Roderick Galvez, Auditor- Florisa Miranda, PIO- Elely Cristobal and Project Managers- Sheila Alvarez and Rosalinda Francisco. — Henry Salac
