The Regional Office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has launched the Government Internship Program (GIP) in Zamboanga City this year in partnership with District 1 Congressman, Celso L. Lobregat.

This followed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by DOLE Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano and Congressman Celso L. Lobregat last May 4.

Lobregat who serves as DOLE’s GIP partner/employer had initiated the appropriation of two million pesos for the Program to be implemented in Zamboanga City.

The program provides young men and women with ages ranging from 18 to 25 the opportunity to serve the general public through the National and Local government agencies.

DOLE has provided and assigned a total of 72 interns-beneficiaries to Lobregat’s Congressional office.

The first batch consisted of 34 job applicants who will render service from May 4 to Nov 5, this year.

The second batch will work from June 1st to November 30 also of the current year.

The young workers were deployed in various offices such as Labuan hospital, Department of Health, Department of Trade and Industry, DOLE, City Social Welfare Office, Office of Senior Citizen’s Affairs, Public Information Office and City Licensing Division at City Hall. — Jubels Santos
