A suspected drug-crazed man held an eight-year-old boy hostage for two and a half hour before he surrendered to barangay officials and policemen in Ayala Wednesday afternoon.

Elvin Daya Mannang y Mawali, 37, a habal-habal driver, who was armed with a kitchen knife, reportedly went berserk in their place prompting relatives to report him to the police.

When policemen responded around 4 p.m., Manning ran away and grabbed Ryan Erante y Valiente, a grade 2 pupil, and held him hostage.

Several times, Mannang, a  native of Tongkil, Sulu and residing at Country Homes Subdivision, Ayala, threatened to kill the boy amid the negotiations being carried out by barangay officials and policemen. In his moment of madness,  Mannang demanded a gun. but he was not granted.

Around 6:30 p.m., Mannang released Erante and surrendered to the police with a plea that he would not be charged for his action. — Dan Toribio
