District 1 Representative Celso Lobregat led officials yesterday in conducting an ocular inspection of the soon-to-open and spanky Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) in Barangay Divisoria.

Lobregat told newsmen that the bus terminal project is now completed and it is up to the contractor to set the date for its turnover to the city government.

Engr. Ladislao Darunday of Zamboanga 3VC Construction Inc.said the IBT is an initiative and priority project of Rep. Lobregat when he was the mayor of Zamboanga City. During the implementation and construction of the project, the firm encountered hardship because of an injunction case filed by some individuals out to stop the project.

“ If the project started without some hitches and the construction was in continuity, it could have been completed last December,” Darunday said.

He said the total land mass where the IBT sits is almost four hectares. The project is worth P 175 million.    The amenities in the new bus terminal include sleeping rooms for waiting and stranded passengers, X-ray machines to check personnel belongings of passengers before boarding time,  standby generators, 19 stalls for business and many others. The IBT is only for buses and public utility vans.

Darunday said his firm will request the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) to make adjustment of their eletric posts to higher level so that they can proceed with the construction of an overpass  bridge at the frontal area of the IBT. — Allen Abastillas
