CHED: 17 HEIs in Region 9 hike tuition, other fees PDF Print E-mail

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has approved the request of 17 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) here in Region 9 to increase tuition and other fees effective school year 2015-2016.

Dr. Juanito Demetrio, CHED regional director, said Friday the increase will be will be 3.99 percent based on the education deflator, which is the inflation rate of the education sector.

Demetrio said that 70 percent of the increase will be utilized to pay additional salary to the teachers, 20 percent for the upgrading of the schools including purchase of books and 10 percent return of investment.

Demetrio said the HEIs will increase tuition and other fees are the following: Ateneo de Zamboanga University; Universidad de Zamboanga and its campuses in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay and Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur; Brent Hospital and Colleges Inc.; Southern City Colleges; Pilar College; Saint Columban College and Lucan Central College both located in Pagadian City; Balancia Carreon College, Molave, Zamboanga del Sur; Aurora Pioneers Memorial College, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur; Andres Bonifacio College and St. Marry’s College both located in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte; St. Joseph College, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte; DMC College Foundation Inc., Saint Estanislao Kostka College and Collegio de San Francisco Javier all located in Zamboanga del Norte.

Demetrio said the 17 HEIs have complied with the requirements before CHED approved the request for tuition and other fees increase.

The requirements included the conduct of consultation and submission of letter of intent. — RGAAG
