A Philippine Coast Guard member was arrested during a drug bust operation at a motel along Tumaga-Putik road Thursday night.

Nabbed was SN1 Ronnel Macaraeg y Ramirez, 31, married, of Carillo Compound, Tumaga and assigned in Cotabato City. He was arrested by men of the Central Police Station’s SAIDSOTFG led by Sr. Insp. Elmer Solon under Chief Insp. Edilberto Alvarez, around 10 p.m.

Confiscated from Macaraeg’s possession were a heat sealed sachet of shabu, P200 marked money and three strips of aluminum foil.

Police also recovered from his possession a cellphone and a scooter motorcycle.

Macaraeg was brought to the City Prosecutor Office yesterday for inquest proceeding for violation of Sections 5 and 12 of Republic Act 9165.

The seized items were forwarded to the 9th PNP Crime Laboratory for examination.

It was gathered that Macaraeg had been collecting shabu from some pushers identifying himself as a police official. However he denied it during an interview wth this reporter. But he admitted that he is using shabu while serving in the Philippine Coast Guard. — Dan Toribio
