Regional Director Mary June Bugante of the Department  of Tourism- 9 has expressed support to the proposed project of Councilor Vincent Paul “VP” Elago, chairman of the City Council’s Committee on Tourism, to develop the Eleven islands in the east coast for tourism activities.

Bugante stressed the importance of tourism as it brings many benefits for people.

She explained that tourism can uplift the people’s economic status and improve their quality of life.

Tourism generates income for the people and also for the government, Bugante said.

The tourism director is all for Elago’s proposal provided that the area that will be developed is secured  and very accessible to tourists.

Bugante, who already visited the Eleven islands, said it is beautiful and enchanting with its crystal clear water and fine white sand.

She revealed that the different islands are distinct and have their individual beauty.

Some islands have emerald- white color coastal water. The atmosphere is very relaxing and soothing  with its  unique natural beauty, she said.

It was learned that Eleven Islands has declared as one of the most beautiful in the country once it is developed and secured.

Bugante said Elago’s proposed project will be realized soon

Once developed, the lives of people in the area will be improved. They can  develop and use their skills to sell products to tourists.

On the other hand, Bugante  disclosed that the top three products for tourism destinations in Zamboanga City  are Sta. Cruz Islands, Paseo del Mar and Pasonanca Park. Bugante also received information that most  tourists who visited Sta. Cruz island have suggested that the island should be kept with its natural beauty with its pink sand. — Allen Abastillas
