In a letter to Acting Mayor Cesar Iturralde and in separate letters to City Council members, Congressman Celso Lobregat updated them on the Congressional action on the BBL.  Quoting said letter to the councilors Lobregat said:

“I would like to inform you that  that the House Ad Hoc Committee on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) conducted a total of 47 hearings: 12 House committee hearings, 24 public consultations, 7 executive sessions (within the period of January 26, 27, 28 and February 2, 3, 4 and 9 on a line by line basis) and  after the Mamasapano probe: 1 regular committee hearing (April 20), 1 executive session (april21), and 2 regular/executive sessions (April 23 and 27).

We are ready to vote on the proposed BBL in the committee level on May 11, 12 and possibly until the 13th. Per schedule, the proposed BBL is going to be tackled in Plenary on May 18.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank once again in the Council, in relation to Resolution No. 249, duly adopted on 10 March 2015, for recognizing and commending this Representation’s efforts and contribution in the enhancement of people’s understanding on the provisions of the proposed BBL.

I am very thankful for your affirmative vote to approve the resolution and for recognizing my efforts. I am doing my job in the best way I can and know how. I feel it is my responsibility and duty to share to others what I know about the proposed BBL and other related concerns so that the people can make a stand on the issue.

Rest assured till the very end, this Representation would be fighting for Zamboanga City’s interest, standing firm for what is best for Mindanao, defending the Constitution and protecting the Republic. Muchas Gracias y Que Dios Nos Bendiga.”

Lobregat also advised acting Mayor Cesar Iturralde about the Senate hearing of the committee on local government, headed by Sen. Ferdinand “BongBong” Marcos to be held in Zamboanga City on May 14, 2015 at Royce Convention Hall, Grand Astoria Hotel, this City. — Jubels Santos
