In a bid to help find solution to the city’s eight-hour power outages, the National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reforms (NASECORE), ZC Chapter, has given Zamcelco’s management and Board of Directors until May 15 to reply its request for a copy of the coop’s monthly system loss from January, 2014 to February, 2015 and the percentage terms according to customer’s category such as residential, commercial and industrial.

NASECORE-ZC President Rev. Pablo Palis said their newly-organized group had sent a letter on March 26, 2015, and was received by Zamcelco on March 30, 2015, yet as of press time the coop has no reply.

“They have until May 15 or else we’ll bring this to higher authority as our next option. We are doing this for the betterment of the city to bring people to the right place,” Palis said.

At present in its earlier report, Zamcelco has increased its debt from P700 million to P1.3 billion and an increased in system loss pegged at 23% despite some areas which were considered before as “contributory factor” to system loss are non-existent like barangays Mariki, Rio, Hondo, Sta. Barbara and other barangays in the siege areas.

“Sad to say, system loss that goes more than the allowable percentage of 13.5% reflects gross management inefficiency which we find highly unacceptable as this will be an additional and unnecessary pass-on cost to Zamcelco member-owner-consumers,” Palis said.

NASECORE-ZC was organized on February 25, 2015, with a seminar-workshop for the elected officers and its members held March 18, 2015, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council). It also aims active participation of member-consumers to mass education, information and communication with some of its strategies to conduct mass forum, intervention to ERC hearings and other concerns which include power outages, brownout, high bills and growing debts. — Monch L.
