Zamcelco approves PSA for generator purchase PDF Print E-mail

The Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) approved recently a Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with the Alsons Group of Companies as a short term solution to the pestering power crisis in this city.

Zamcelco President Omar Sahi,Al Hajj said he has already signed the PSA on Monday by authority of the Board of Directors to enter into an agreement with Alsons Power for the purchase of a 20-megawatt modular generator set to be used by the cooperative as well as a authority to avail of the joint application for the PSA to the Energy Regulatory Commission(ERC) in order to fast track the application for the said purchase.

Sahi said that upon transmittal, the board as well as the Zamcelco management led by general manager Engr. George Ledesma will personally follow-up the said applications to ERC for an assured fast action on the matter.

The board earlier sought the help of District 1 Rep. Celso Lobregat to assist them in making proper representation to the ERC in Manila to fast track the process which would take at least 90 days from its regular processing period.

“With the worsening power problem,we are experiencing now, we cannot afford to wait that long, the city is suffering so we need Cong. Lobregat’s help as he has more connections and can represent us in the ERC,” Sahi said.

At present, the city’s power requirement is 90 megawatts at peak hours with at least 66 megawatts being utilized at present while confronting numerous shutdown and interruption from its sourced Independent Power Producers (IPP) of which they are in contract with.

Earlier,Alsons Group of Companies committed to extend the most possible and reliable short term, medium term and long term solutions to the power problem the city is experiencing, depending on the sense of urgency and conformity of the local electric cooperative management and officials.

Alsons is dedicated to explore all means thru their giantpower generation business just to help Zamcelco address power crisis that is crippling the local economy.
