2 dead, 10 hurt as security forces raid Abu bomb factory in Basilan PDF Print E-mail

A soldier and an Abu Sayyaf militant were killed while 10 others were wounded as government troopers raided an improvised explosive device (IED) factory at Sitio Project, Barangay Tuburan Proper, Hji Moh Ajul town, Basilan Thursday.

Rear Admiral Reynaldo Yoma, head of the military’s Joint Task Force ZAMBASULTA (Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi) said.that government troops raided an Abu Sayyaf bomb making factory around 8: 25 a.m. Thursday triggering a firefight with about 25 militants led by Ustadz Abbas Alam along with one Malaysian jihadist Mohammad Najib,

Yoma said the intense gunbattle lasted for four hours. after which the Abu Sayyaf guerrillas retreated leaving one dead.

Intelligence reports said that another militant was killed in the firefight but his companions managed to  carry away his body.

Three militants were also wounded, while government forces suffered one dead and seven wounded, acording to Yoma.

Assorted IEDs were recovered from the captured Abu Sayyaf facility.

Government forces on Friday continued running after Alam’s group.

Since 1991, the Abu Sayyaf — armed with mostly improvised explosive devices, mortars and automatic rifles - has carried out bombings, kidnappings, assassinations and extortions in a self-determined fight for an independent Islamic province in the Philippines.
