Four dance crews reigned supreme in the recently concluded Zamboanga Hip Hop Dance Competition Wednesday afternoon, May 13, at Paseo del Mar
Crowned as champions for the four different dance categories were the TCS Kidstars (Tetuan Central School) for the Junior Category, the After Class (Universal College) for the Varsity Category, the Fourtwenty Crew for the Crew Category, and the True Family Dance Company for the Megacrew Category.
The winning groups bested 28 other competing dance crews who joined this year’s summer hiphop dance contest.
The Junior category featured dance crews with members ages 7 – 12 years old, while the Varsity category gathered official varsity dance groups representing the different schools in Zamboanga City. The Crew and Mega-Crew category, on the other hand, showcased dance groups with 5 – 12 members and 15 – 40 members, respectively.

Emerging as finalists were the Level-Up Dance Crew (Tumaga ES) and the Paso-Baile Dance Troupe (Pasonanca ES), the Kalahi Dance Company (ZNHS West) and D’Aim Skool (Ayala National HS), the True Family and MM2D Crew, and the FTC Dance Company and Sinag Dance Company.
The performances were judged by Randy Pacatang, Prince Angelo Tañgon, and Kristoffer Ian Buñag of Sexy Bordz, a dance group who emerged as one of the finalists in the Battlegrounds competition held in Melbourne, Australia.
The dance competition was one of the activities lined up for the 2015 Summer Festival. Other upcoming summer festival activities include the Juego de Antes (May 16), the Dia de General Vicente Alvarez (May 18), the Festival delas Bellas y Flores (May 22), the Danza Verano: Party Until Sundown (May 23), and the Peace and Freedom Run – Zamboanga (May 24). — Jasmine Mohammadsali
