The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has approved Sinunuc’s Barangay Council’s application for a financial assistance grant for the  “Dia de Sinunuc”  dubbed as “Bocana River Festival 2015,”

Sinunuc Barangay Chairperson Pilarica Ledesma led the idea of modernizingtheir community for sustainable development and cooperation among its residents.

“The barangay is indebted to NCCA for its unrelenting support to the festival,” Ledesma said.

She said the resources of the barangay alone cannot sustain the grand occasion which started last year initiated by the newly elected barangay officials.

Highlighting the festival from May 23 to 29, this year, are street dance and showdown competitions, fluvial procession and regatta.

“We are really thankful to the NCCA and hopefully there will be additional grants by next year to improve our facilities here,” Ledesma said.

Sinunuc is a typical barangay on the threshold of urbanization with a total population of approximately 23,000. It is located at the west coast with approximately 9.5 kilometers from the city proper populated with multi-ethnic people. — Monch L. Follosco
