Marian exhibit opens in City Hall May 18-22 PDF Print E-mail

Ten images of the Virgin Mary are currently on exhibit at the City Hall lobby in line with the Festival de las Bellas y Flores which lends its significance to the festival of flowers every month of May in honor of the Virgin Mary.

Dubbed as Exhibit of Marian images, the event features the best images of Mary in Zamboanga and will run from May 18-22. It will be capped by a grand procession of the participating images alongside the Festival de las Bellas y Flores on Friday.

The event also forms part of the City’s program to promote and preserve culture and arts, as initiated by the Council on History Culture and Arts.

The Marian images on exhibit were brought in from the different religious art collectors from the different barangays. The titles and the owners of the images are the following: Nuestra Señora del Santisimo Rosario by the Acorin family of Tugbungan, Nuestra Señora del Santisimo Rosario by the Binarao family of Tetuan, Nuestra Señora de la Purisima by the De los Reyes family of Sta. Maria, Nuestra Señora de las Angustias by the Miñoza family of Guiwan,  Nuestra Señora de Santisimo Rosario Manaoag by the Rodriguez family of Tumaga, Nuestra Señora del Santisimo Rosario by the Cabato family of Tetuan, Nuestra Señora de la Navidad by the Ruste family of Tugbungan, Nuestra Señora de la Purisima of the Montojo family of Sto. Niño, Nuestra Señora del Santisimo Rosario de Piat by the Potenciano family of Mercedes and Nuestra Señora de las Dolores of the Ruste family of Tugbungan.

The Festival de las Bellas y Flores is a showcase and competition of colorful arcos, elegant gowns and beautiful muses. It is set at 4pm on Friday, May 22 with parade route from the City Fire Station in Ledesma Street to the City Hall grounds. — Sheila Covarrubias
