Seven of the best and most talented fashion designers in Zamboanga City pitched their colorful gowns and arcos for the 13th “Bellas y Flores” Festival yesterday afternoon at the City Hall grounds.

The annual “Bellas y Flores” festival kicked off with a grand opening parade from the City Fire Department before proceeding to the City Hall grounds for the program proper where it featured the competing arcos and gowns as well as marching band performances and floral carrozas.

Together with local officials and residents who joined the afternoon festivities, Mayor Beng Climaco formally opened the program proper at City Hall.

Highlights of the festival were the awarding of the Dia de General Alvarez photo essay competition and the announcement of the winning gown design, the most outstanding arco, and the prettiest señorita awards.

The annual Festival de las Bellas y Flores is an activity that seeks to preserve the cultural heritage of Zamboanga City while showcasing Zamboangueño creativity and craftsmanship. It is one of the three culminating highlights of the 2015 Summer Festival activities initiated by the City Government.

The summer festival will be concluding with the much-awaited “Danza Verano” this afternoon at Paseo del Mar and the Peace and Freedom Run-Zamboanga tomorrow, May 24.— Jasmine Mohammadsali
