In anticipation, Mayor Beng Climaco has issued an executive order temporarily declaring as one-way streets portion of Don Toribio Street from its junctions at Dr Estrada Street to C Atilano Street as well as Villarez Street going to the Zamboanga City High School-Main in Barangay Tetuan.
Issued on May 27th, Executive Order BC 118-2015 seeks to address the influx of student population which will cause tremendous traffic jam in the said area in response to the request of the Tetuan Sangguniang Barangay through resolutions 05-032 and 05-033, both dated May 22, 2015.
The one-way street along the affected portion of Don Toribio Street will be enforced from 06:00 AM to 08:00 AM, 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM and 03:00 PM to 06:00 PM.
Specifically, all motor vehicles coming from the east may use the Don Toribio Street in going to the Tetuan Central School, Universidad de Zamboanga and Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School but may exit at Crispin Atilano Street, Fr Barua Street or M Natividad Street.
The Villares stretch will be imposed from 06:00 AM to 08:00 AM and 04:00 PM to 06:00 PM.
Motor vehicles may use Villares Street going to the Zamboanga City High School Main, but shall exit by turning right and exit at the gate of Yubenco Mall going to Don Alfaro Street.
Both schedules would be effective from June 01 to June 05 and June 08 to June 12, 2015.
The City Police Director thru the Zamboanga City Police Office No. 6 is directed to strictly implement the directive with the assistance of the Tetuan barangay tanods. The City Administrator and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer are likewise requested to ensure compliance.
Meanwhile, the mayor has also issued Executive Order BC 119-2015 amending a recent directive, specifically BC 116-2015, that named the Tumaga-Lunzuran Road (Sun Street) a one-way street from 06:00 AM to 08:00 AM and form 03:00 PM to 05:30 PM from Mondays to Fridays starting on June 01 to September 30, this year.
E.O. BC 119-2015 further exempts residents of Tumaga from the restrictions stated in E.O. BC 116-2015 provided they hold car passes issued by the Barangay Chairman of Tumaga shall use Sun Street to Tumaga. — Claudine Uniana
