The City Council, in its regular session last Wednesday, passed a resolution authored by District 2 Councilor Miguel “Mike” Alavar III calling for the establishment of a “Centralized Skilled Placement Database” intended to help Zamboangueños find jobs.

Alavar said the centralized skilled placement database will help a lot of local residents in getting jobs especially when new firms are opening up in the city.
The “computerized database” will be the place where employers can find new workers, Alavar explained.

The city councilor said all skilled workers will be listed in the data base so that employers from different companies can  easily choose workers from the list depending upon job vacancies.

However, Alavar stressed that only Zamboangueño skilled workers will be listed in the data base.
“But not only pure blooded Zamboangueños. Regardless of their dialects and tribes as long as they are residing in the city. They will be considered and they will be qualified to be listed in the data base,” he clarified.

The data base will be established in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
“I noticed that there are some new business establishments in the city hiring employees who are not residents of the city. Some of them come from other provinces. But with the propose data base, it will no longer be hard for employers to look for workers. All they have to do is visit the data base to find workers they need,” he said.
The Council is scheduled to invite personnel from PESO to discuss further about the data base. — Dan Toribio Jr.
