Assistant City Administrator and head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Dr. Elmier Apolinario yesterday disclosed that efforts to rehabilitate the city’s sports complex will now start in earnest.

This after the bulk of internally displaced families temporarily staying at the Don Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex since the September 2013 siege have been relocated to various permanent shelters or returned to their points of origin.

According to the city official, the technical working group are set to meet anytime this month to discuss the mechanics of the rehabilitation and reconstruction following the procurement of the blueprints for the sports complex last week.

The grandstand’s original plans made in 1992, its 1997 rehabilitation plans and the proposed 2015-2016 plans are in his possession, Apolinario told members of the local media.

Operations at the city facility have stopped after it was used to accommodate the hundreds of displaced families until they can return to their respective points of origin.

The grandstand has since deteriorated and now requires major rehabilitation works. — Claudine Uniana
