Soldier killed, 2 hurt in clash with Reds PDF Print E-mail

A soldier was killed while two others were wounded in a fresh encounter with News People’s Army guerrillas at Sitio Tibaol, Brgy. Sinoron, Sta.Cruz, Davao del Sur around at 12:10 p.m., last Friday.

Soldiers of the army’s 39th Infantry Battalion (39IB), 10th Infantry Division,  recovered one M16A1 rifle, two rifle grenades, three unexploded improvised explosive device (IED), ammunition, assorted medicines, a radio, subversive documents and backpacks at the encounter site.

Capt. Alberto Caber, spokesperson of the military;s Eastern Mindanao Command, told Daily Zamboanga Times that pursuit operations  were going on as of press time.

Caber said the wounded soldiers were in stable condition at Camp Panacan Station Hospital.

He said that necessary coordination was already made by 39IB to the family of the soldier who was killed after the firefight.

Caber quoted 39IB Commander Lt. Col. Apollo Jun Lamaton as saying that they will continue to provide security operations in the area to protect the populace from “deception and extortion activities by the CPP/NPA bandits.”

Residents in the area reported that there are more or less four NPA rrebels wounded and were carried by their companions during their escape.

The squad from 39IB was on security patrol following a report from concerned residents about the presence of armed group in the area.

Eastern Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Aurelio B. Baladad earlier encouraged wounded NPA members to come out for their medical treatment. “We are all awaiting for your return to the folds of the law. We will facilitate your safe return to your respective families and become productive citizens in your respective communities”, Lt. Gen. Baladad said.
