Government forces seized bomb components in a raid before Sunday at a suspected hideout of an Abu Sayyaf bomber at Sitio Gapuh, Talabaan

But Alkobar, the Abu Sayyaf bomber and subject of the raid, was nowhere to be found during the joint operation carried out before midnight.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Angelito Casimiro told newsmen during the weekly press briefing at City Hall with Mayor Beng CLimaco-Salazar yesterday said the raiding team seized during the raid a white plastic gallong containing more or less three kilograms of assorted enhanced fragments, about ½ kg of ammonium nitrate-fuel oil (ANFO), three blasting caps, NONEL (improvised), two match sticks, three-inch fuse, time safety (commercial), four slide switches, 26-inch telephone wire (black/red), 56 inches ground electrical wire (black), 118 inches of electrical wire #22 (red) brown carton container and 1 empty Fiesta LPG tank.

The raiders held Salam Naim  Arula, 41, a native of Lampinigan, Lantawan, Basilan who was in the house during the raid. –

Police said  the objective of the operation was to arrest Alkobar, who has pending warrant of arrest for multiple kidnapping and serious illegal detention.

Alkobar was tagged as involved in a kidnapping that happened at Golden Harvest in Tairan, Lantawan, Basilan several years ago.

The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD)conducted a safety procedure and disrupted a suspected IED.

Among those who participated in the raid were operatives of the Regional Intelligence Division, PRO9, led by Sr. Supt.Chiquito Malayo, Zamboanga City Police Station 4,  ZCPO led by Police Sr. Insp. Elmer Perez Solon, Joint Task Force Zambasulta (JTFZ) led Capt. Roy Vicent T. Trinidad, NAVSOG, MARSOG, NISGWM, AISGWM led by Maj. Robert Isnani and TFZ Bomb Squad led by Capt Llenares.

On May 27, government operatives arrested three persons and seized two grenades and an improvised explosive device (IED) during a raid at the hideout of another Abu Sayyaf bomber in Barangay Muti.

The raiding team armed with a search warrant swooped down around 11 p.m. on the house of Albert Tumanbid alias Abu Walid, a member of the Abu Sayyaf, who was not around during the operation.

The team recovered two handgrenades, a .45 cal. pistol with rounds of ammunition and an improvised explosive device with complete bomb components including nails, electrical wire and a cell phone detonator.

The raiding team also arrested Nurmina Tibulong, Jihada Tibulong and Bashier Tibulong who were in the house during the operation. They were brought to the city police office for investigation while the confiscated items were turned over to the investigators.

Police sources said that Tumanbid had participated in some bomb attacks in the city in recent years. — Dan Toribio Jr.
