The city government of Zamboanga through the City Health Office and the Department of Health (DOH) regional office 9 jointly conduct this morning the Dengue Summit 2015 at Sapphire Ballroom, Grand Astoria Hotel, this city.

Aimed at increasing and sustaining public awareness on preventive measures against the killer mosquito-borne disease, the dengue summit will kick off with a motorcade of participants from Pettit Barracks to the Grand Astoria Hotel.

City Health Officer Dr. Rodel Agbulos is going to welcome the guests and participants to be followed by an inspirational message of Mayor Beng Climaco whose present administration focuses on health as one of its primary thrusts along with security and education.

Dr. Nimfa B. Torrizo, regional director of DOH-9, will also give a message, after which Dr. Ivy S. Iturralde will give an overview of the latest dengue statistics in Zamboanga City.

To lecture the participants on the basic information about dengue, Dr. Norvie Jalani, physician research coordinator of the Zamboanga City Medical Center, will deliver a talk on Dengue 101.

Film showing and video presentations on dengue and its preventive measures will follow the Dengue 101 lecture. Tumaga Barangay Chairperson Jacquiline Lim will share her testimony as her barangay has had a number of dengue cases.

Regional Dengue Program Coordinator Solomon Perez will talk about dengue prevention and control followed by a film showing, then the closing remarks of Dr. Hussein Sahijuan, medical coordinator on dengue program. — VTL
