Mayor Celso Lobregat Wednesday afternoon paid out the cash incentives of the instructors of the recently concluded 16th Summer Learn to Play a Sport Program of the city government.

The city government had hired at least 245 instructors for the 26 sporting divisions of the summer sports program. Each instructor received a P2,500 cash incentive for a total of P612,500.

Over 3,000 children aged 4-12 years old participated in the month-long summer sports program for free that culminated last May 29 at the JFE Memorial Sports Complex.
Last May 22, medal haulers in the 2011 Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA) Meet also received their cash incentives from the city government as a form of recognition of their successful feats in their individual events.

Some P441,400 were spent by the city for the cash rewards to the 325 medalists.
Mayor Lobregat had explained that the grant of cash incentive to athlete-medalists is part of the city government’s sports development program aimed at encouraging the youth to engage in sports.

Under the program, a gold medalist is entitled to P1,000 cash, while silver and bronze medalists are entitled to P700 and P500 cash, respectively. — Sheila Covarrubias
